I recommend you also download and run EtreCheck so we can examine the report to see if you have any other software installed which may be causing a problem. MalwareBytes also has an "uninstall" option on one of its menus (I think on the Help menu). Like I said earlier anti-virus type apps are not normally needed on a Mac, but MalwareBytes is the one exception to the rule if you believe malware has been accidentally installed. If MalwareBytes won't run from Safe Mode, then boot normally to run it.įYI, once the malware is removed, then I would disable the MalwareBytes real-time scanning option since it really is not needed. At least you have an easier time downloading it if you are having trouble access the Internet. I don't know whether MalwareBytes will allow you to run it while booted into Safe Mode, but I would give it a try. I highly recommend you first boot into Safe Mode as this should prevent any third party software from launching automatically during boot & login. Try running MalwareBytes to scan the Mac to see if there is any malware and see if MalwareBytes can remove it. It sounds like you may have installed some malware on this Mac. I doubt CMM is the source of those ads, but CMM has been repeatedly shown on these forums to cause problems. Anti-virus apps, cleaning apps, and third party security software are not needed on a Mac as they interfere with the normal operation of macOS and usually cause more problems than they solve. Unmount any externally connected drives to attempt to keep them safe until this issue is resolved.įirst of all uninstall CleanMyMac by following the developer's instructions as it is notorious on these forums for causing all sorts of problems, especially performance issues.
